Praise Song : You Alone

Last Sunday during our Worship Service, our brother Simon shared a song and gave a testimony.  The song that he shared was “You Alone” by Don Harris.  The lyrics for the song is given below.

You are the peace that guards my heart
My help in times of need
You are the hope that leads me on
And brings me to my knees
For there I find you waiting and there I find relief
So with all my heart I’ll worship
And unto you I’ll sing

For you alone deserve all glory
For you alone deserve all praise
Father we worship and adore you
Father we long to see your face
For you alone deserve all glory
For you alone deserve all praise
Father we love you and we worship you this day

Simon shared that he and his wife had just returned from a much needed short holiday, only to face an emergency with the water supply at their place of employment.  Although it was already about 4 in the evening, he and his wife would struggle to solve the problem until late into the night because they needed to have the problem solved before the working day started the next day.  However, despite their best efforts they could not solve the problem.

Simon remained anxious but could do no more.  He and his wife committed everything to God in prayer and rested in their trust in Him.  Simon testifies that God directed him in his sleep and he went in early the next morning and found the source of the problem and was able to resolve the problem within fifteen minutes and before the working day began.

God indeed is our help in times of need and able to give us a peace that is beyond understanding.

Praise Song: On Bended Knee

Another week and another new song.  As we are including more members as worship leaders, it seems inevitable that each of them are keen to introduce some songs which are new to the congregation.

This Sunday, brother Simon Hong will be worship leading and he has a truck load of songs to teach us but he is starting with this song, “On Bended Knee” by Robert Gay.

Again, we have put up this post ahead of time so that we might get familiar with the song before then.

Praise Song: Oil of Gladness

In the Praise Song series of posts so far, we have put up a video of a song that someone requested during Sunday Worship that not everybody knew so that we can learn to sing the song better the next time.  However, this week we are being pro-active and introducing a song before it is requested.

Brother Abraham Williams will be our worship leader this coming Sunday and he already knows which worship songs he is going to choose for the service.  One of them is “Oil of Gladness” by David Butterbaugh which Abraham describes as “an old with a catchy beat”.  However, I am not familiar with this song and I have never heard it sung before in church  so here it is.

Let us learn this well so that we might sing mightily during this coming Sunday service.

Praise Song: Awesome God

The song, Awesome God, has been in our church songbook for as long as anyone can remember.  But, what’s this?  Up to now we have only been singing the chorus?  You mean there are more verses to the song?  Awesome.

Last Sunday, led by Elder Choo Min Fook, we made a game effort to sing the whole of this wonderful song of worship but to be honest, we will need to practice more to do the song justice.  So let’s learn this song so that we will be better prepared to worship our awesome God the next time.

When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain’t just putting on the ritz
(Our God is an awesome God)
There’s thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fists
(Our God is an awesome God)

And the Lord wasn’t joking when He kicked ’em out of Eden
It wasn’t for no reason that He she’d His blood
His return is very close and so you better be believing that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

And when the sky was starless
In the void of the night
(Our God is an awesome God)
He spoke into the darkness
And created the light
(Our God is an awesome God)

Judgement and wrath He poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God (Our God is an awesome God)
He reigns from heaven above (He reigns from heaven above)
With wisdom, power, and love (With wisdom, power, and love)
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God

Praise Song: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus & Faithful One

We had a number of interesting visitors at our church this last couple of weeks and it was gratifying to hear how they enjoyed participating in our Sunday Worship service.  One of our visitors, Oli, mentioned how he did not like 7-11 worship songs; that is, songs with seven words repeated eleven times!  Instead, he enjoyed our church’s mix of meaningful new songs and beloved hymns of old.

I think it is great that our church is able to sing both the new and the old in praise and worship to our God but this last two weeks, there have been a number of songs that were requested that were not too familiar to many of us.

So, here below, are two of the songs that kind of stumped us.  The first is the old hymn, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus”.  Many of our church members are familiar with this hymn but it seems that for decades, we have only sung the chorus!  We weren’t too sure when it came to the rest of this beautiful hymn.

The second song, “Faithful One” is a more recent song by Brian Doerksen and it has been in our songbook for years.  However last Sunday, one of our visitors had to lead us in singing that song as he was the only one confident enough about the song to do so.

So let us study these videos and add two more songs of worship to our collective repertoire.

Praise Song: In Christ Alone

This song, “In Christ Alone”  has been chosen to be part of the led portion of this coming Sunday’s Worship Service which will focus on how our hope and our faith is in Christ alone.  Although this song has been sung before at our church, it has been relatively infrequent.  For the benefit of those who would like to know this song better, here it is.  Originally written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, this version is by Newsboys.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt of life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
’til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Praise Song: So You Would Come

The Praise Song series will highlight a worship song, including a video and the lyrics.  It is intended that this will help us learn and get familiar with many more songs of worship.  Contemporary songs, old hymns and new songs will all be included in this Praise Song Series.  If you have a song that you think should be included, just leave a message in the comment section, stating the name of the song and the artiste that sings it or even better, where we might find a music video of the song.

At our worship service last Sunday, we sang this song, “So You Would Come”.  As the Holy Spirit led our thoughts towards the wonderful fact that God as our Father desires a loving relationship with us, the words of this song remind us of what He has done so that we can enter this relationship with Him.  It is a song that we have sung before but I, for one, am still not too familiar with it.  So here it is below and it just so happens to be another song from the Australian group, Hillsong United.

“So You Would Come”

(by Hillsong United)

Before the world began
You were on His mind
And every tear you cry
Is precious in His eyes
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Chorus

Come to the Father
Though your gift is small
Broken hearts, broken lives
He will take them all
The power of the Word
The power of His blood
Everything was done
So you would come

Nothing you can do
Could make Him love you more
And nothing that you’ve done
Could make Him close the door
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Praise Song: “Still”

The Praise Song series will highlight a worship song, including a video and the lyrics.  It is intended that this will help us learn and get familiar with many more songs of worship.  Contemporary songs, old hymns and new songs will all be included in this Praise Song Series.  If you have a song that you think should be included, just leave a message in the comment section, stating the name of the song and the artiste that sings it or even better, where we might find a music video of the song.

We start the Praise Song series with a song that was sung at our Sunday Worship a couple of weeks ago.

“Still”

(by Hillsong)

Hide me now
Under Your wings
Cover me
Within Your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father you are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father You are king over the flood
I will be still and know You are God
